When 'trying to be healthier' backfires.

Have you ever found yourself making a smoothie, adding the supplements, and mentally checking whether you took the other supplement with warm water before anything else went into your stomach?
Meanwhile, somewhere in the back of your mind, you’re telling yourself you should have slept better too.
It was one of those mornings that made me realise something: trying to be healthier was starting to add more stress to my already stressed system.
The irony felt jarring. All the health advice, all the optimising, all the little rules that were meant to help, had started to feel like more noise.
Eventually, I began to stop chasing every suggestion and started meeting my actual needs instead.
The relief in my nervous system wasn’t immediate. Sometimes the old optimisation advice still sneaks back in. But over time, the heaviness that had wrapped itself around me started to lift.
I could make my own health decisions again without worrying so much about whether I was being “healthy enough.”
And let’s be honest, that might be one of the healthiest choices we can make when we’re stressed or close to burnout.
Putting some of the outside noise aside and rebuilding trust in myself has eased the pressure. It has quietened the guilt that used to sneak up on me.
Sometimes the healthiest choice is not adding another rule, but listening for what your body is actually asking for.
